Zola Hughes

? Graveside services for Zola Hughes, 88, Topeka, will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.

Mrs. Hughes died Saturday, June 7, 2003, at Aldersgate Village, Topeka.

She was born Oct. 11, 1914, at Robertsville, Ark., the daughter of James Fender and Mary Ellen (Greer) Andrews. She graduated from Dodge City High School in 1935.

Mrs. Hughes ran testing stations for Hallmark Cards in Overland Park for 20 years. She had previously been a resident of Wichita, Hutchinson, Chicago, Peoria, Ill., and Indianapolis before settling in Overland Park.

She was a member of Lowman United Methodist Church, Topeka, past president of PTA in Indianapolis, past president of W.S.C.S. at Washington Street United Methodist Church in Indianapolis and a past den mother for Cub Scouts.

She married William Owen Hughes on July 4, 1937, in Garden City. He survives of the home.

Other survivors include a son, Steven P. Hughes, Lawrence; and a granddaughter.
