Lee belts two homers as Marlins blast Brewers
Milwaukee ? Derrek Lee homered twice to back Mark Redman as the Florida Marlins routed the Milwaukee Brewers, 12-4, Tuesday night.
Lee hit a two-run homer in a four-run first inning, then hit a solo shot in the fourth. Lee, who was 3-for-5, had his third multihomer game this season, the eighth of his career, and raised his season home run total to 12. He began the day in a 1-for-16 slide since going 4-for-4 against Oakland on June 3.
Both homers were off Ben Sheets (6-5), who has allowed a major league-high 20 homers.
Florida broke open the game with a seven-run ninth off Milwaukee’s bullpen.
Redman (4-2) allowed one run and six hits in eight innings, beating the Brewers for the second time this season. His previous start was his worst of the season — he lasted just 32¼3 innings against Oakland, allowing five runs, six hits and four walks.Florida has won its last six games against Milwaukee. The Brewers have lost three straight overall and dropped to 11-22 at home.
Sheets, winless in six home starts since defeating St. Louis on April 15, allowed five runs and seven hits in seven innings. He struck out eight, matching his season high.
Milwaukee went ahead in the first after Juan Pierre singled and stole his major league-leading 25th base. Luis Castillo sacrificed toward third baseman Wes Helms, who threw over first for an error that allowed Pierre to score.
