Matt Steel Ross

Mr. Ross died Saturday, June 7, 2003, at his home.

He was born Oct. 12, 1908, in Cincinnati, Iowa, the son of Andrew and Martha (Steel) Ross.

Mr. Ross worked in the grocery business in Kansas City before joining Prudential Insurance. In 1949, he opened a Ben Franklin store in Overland Park and later one in Lawrence. He retired from Overland Park State Bank.

He had served as chairman of Overland Park Township Board, First City Council of Overland Park, past president of Overland Park City Council and was the first Overland Park Rotary Club president. He was a member of Abdallah Shrine, Masonic Lodge and Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church.

He married Helen I. Ross on June 3, 1928, in Iowa City, Iowa. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include two daughters, Roberta J. McDow, Lawrence, and Barbara J. Gibson, Overland Park; a sister, Jean McGuinn, Houston; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
