T defense

To the editor:

Since the city bus system has been in operation, letters criticizing the T system have steadily appeared in the Journal-World with the latest coming from Scottie Lingelbach in the June 1 edition. Critics accuse the city of waste and fraud for operating a system whose buses appear to be mostly empty.

As one who has a visual disability, I have voluntarily stopped driving. I have many friends who drive me on errands when my wife is working. However, the bus system has offered me a greater independence and flexibility than before and I greatly appreciate this service.

Those who are annoyed by the sight of an empty bus should propose ideas on how to increase ridership. Also, critics of the system can contribute support for it by riding the bus when they can instead of hurling negative barbs. Do something positive or forever hold your peace.
