Charles S. Gordon

Services for Charles S. Gordon, 78, Lawrence, will be at a later date. Inurnment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Baldwin.

Mr. Gordon died Wednesday, June 4, 2003, at Brandon Woods Retirement Community.

He was born Feb. 10, 1925, in Emporia, the son of Clarence A. and Helen (Smith) Gordon.

Mr. Gordon graduated from Grant Township High School, Stark. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and received an honorable discharge in January 1946.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Emporia State Teachers College and a master’s degree in school administration from Pittsburg State University. He also did graduate work at Kansas University.

He began his teaching career in Stark and later became a teacher and principal at Lawrence Junior High. He moved in 1957 to California and served as a teacher and administrator until he retired in 1984.

Survivors include three daughters, Kathy Myers, Edgerton, Mary Mitchell, Baldwin, and Lori Tilson, Lawrence; two sisters, Joan Mattison, Lawrence, and Sue Bryant, Roeland Park; and four grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to Hospice Care in Douglas County or the Alzheimer’s Assn., www.alz.org.
