Two more sequels invade local theaters this week.

First up is “Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life,” a much-improved follow-up to the dreadful 2001 original. This time the acrobatic Lara is less of a video game come-to-life and more of a James Bond imitation. The film’s exotic locales and breakneck pacing insure the audience has little time to scrutinize all the holes in the goofy plot about a scheme to unleash Pandora’s Box.

Also in the style over substance category is “Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over,” which adds a new spin to the franchise by having audiences don 3-D glasses. Sylvester Stallone turns up as the villain who traps the gadget-happy kids in a virtual reality game.

In terms of non-sequels, the much-anticipated “Seabiscuit” rides into theaters. Based on the legendary sports story from the 1930s, the old-fashioned crowd-pleasing drama recalls the unlikeliest of champion race horses and the three men who shared in its triumphs.

And finally at the art house, there’s the Oscar-nominated “Winged Migration,” featuring lovely cinematography of flying birds — although we can’t prove it because we have no footage.
