MyStory continues with family workshop

Caryn Mirriam-Goldberg will connect parents and children for the next installment of the MyStory series.

The Lawrence writer will conduct a workshop on Parent and Child Writing from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at Babcock Place, 1700 Mass. It’s the third session in the series, designed to preserve personal histories.

The series is sponsored by Douglas County Senior Services, the Lawrence Public Library and the Lawrence Douglas County Housing Authority/Babcock Place.

Museum to train kids in ways of archaeology

Children will have the chance to learn how archaeologists work during a program from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Watkins Community Museum of History, 1047 Mass.

Children will dig for artifacts while discussing what can be learned about ancient people from their possessions and what they leave behind. Children will make miniature pots to keep.

Space is limited, so reservations are recommended. A contribution of $5 per child is suggested. For reservations or more information, call 841-4109.

Theater’s ‘Gingerbread House’ open to youth

Area youth can helps build an “Old Gingerbread House” next week during Lawrence Community Theatre’s School’s Out, Theatre’s In program.

Participants in the weeklong workshop will play theater games, learn music and complete scenery and costume projects on their way to mounting a week’s-end production of “This Old Gingerbread House.”

Veteran teachers will work with children on singing, storytelling, acting and construction projects.

Children in grades one through five are eligible to participate. The program runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 28-Aug. 1. Cost is $90 for theater members and $95 for nonmembers. Scholarships are available.
