Kandic Sparks and Mark Grimmett

Kenneth and Sharon Sparks, McLouth, announce the engagement of their daughter Kandic Sparks to Mark Grimmett, both of Eudora.

The future bride is a 1997 graduate of McLouth High School. She graduated from Kaw Area Technical School in interior design. She also studied architectural engineering at Kansas City Kansas Community College. She works at Linquist & Craig Hotels & Resorts in Lawrence.

The future groom is the son of Jim and LaDonna Grimmett, Bradleyville, Mo. He is a 1992 graduate of Emporia High School. He received a bachelor of arts in criminology from Kansas State University in 1998. He is a deputy with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

The couple plan a July 26 wedding at Danforth Chapel on Kansas University’s campus.

Shultz-Castro

Paul Castro and Callie Shultz

Lynn Shultz, Lawrence, and Jim and Mary Shultz, Lawrence, announce the engagement of their daughter Callie Shultz to Paul Castro, both of Lawrence.

The future bride is a 1997 graduate of Lawrence High School. She received a bachelor of science in business administration from Kansas University in May 2001. She earned a master’s of business administration from KU in May 2003. She is employed as the health and safety programs and marketing director with the Douglas County Chapter of the American Red Cross.

The future groom is the son of Louis and Donna Castro, Shawnee. He is a 1989 graduate of Shawnee Mission Northwest High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1990 to 1994, participating in the first Gulf War from 1990 to 1991 and in Somalia in 1993. He received a bachelor of fine arts degree in visual communications from KU in 1998. He is employed as an art director for the Sunflower Group in Overland Park.

The couple plan a May 29, 2004, wedding in Kansas City, Mo.

Linda Davison, Lawrence, and Stephen and Vera Gannaway, Baldwin, announce the engagement of their daughter Andrea Gannaway to Ryan Halsted, both of Eudora.

The future bride is a Lawrence High School graduate. She works for the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office.

The groom is the son of Everett and Mary Jane Halsted, State Center, Iowa. He is a 1992 graduate of Marshalltown High School, Marshalltown, Iowa. He graduated in 1996 from the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls, Iowa. He works for the Lawrence Police Department.

The couple plan a July 26 wedding at Trinity Episcopal Church in Lawrence.

Woodyard-Arendt

Dr. George and Eleanor Woodyard, Lawrence, announce the engagement of their daughter Kenda Woodyard to Alfred Arendt Jr., both of Kansas City, Kan.

The bride-to-be is a 1986 graduate of Lawrence High School. She received a bachelor’s degree in business in 1995 from Emporia State University. She works at Kansas University Medical Center in the accounts payable office.

The future groom is an electrician and plumber and owns a small repair business. He retired from the U.S. Air Force as a master sergeant.

The couple plan an Aug. 2 wedding at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lawrence.
