Knights of Columbus No. 1372 in Lawrence announces its new officers for the 2003-2004 fraternal year. The officers are Grand Knight John Callewaert, Chaplain Father Charles Polifka, Deputy Grand Knight Tony Augusto, Chancellor Stephen Smith, and Recorder Duane Filkins.

Other officers are Dorian Witte, financial secretary; Ed Mullins, treasurer; Paul Clark, advocate; David Walker, warden; and Michael Vellon and Val Romero, guards. The board of trustees includes Gerald Denning, Robert McGreevy and Duane Boor.

  • The Lawrence 299ers Duplicate Bridge Club met July 2 for its weekly game. Eleven pairs competed in a stratified game that used a Howell movement. Don Brennaman directed the game.

Harry Talley and Don Daugherty claimed first place in A and B. Bobbi McCorkle and Dick Moore finished second in A and B and first in C. Don Bush and Chuck Hedges placed third in A. Judy Bevan and Harriet Olson took fourth place in A and third place in B. Don Brennaman and Betty Spalsbury finished fifth in A.

  • The Lawrence Duplicate Bridge Club met Monday for its weekly game. Nine tables competed in a stratified game that used a Mitchell movement. Virginia Seaver directed the game.

Sitting North-South, Terry Tolar and Harry Shaffer finished in first place in A and B. Phyllis Brownlee and Madelyn Jenks took second place in A and B. Pat Lombardi and Donna Munson finished third in A and B. Larry Bodle and Kent McCullough placed fourth.

Competing East-West, Eldon Herd and Jerry Sloan finished first. Bebe Huxtable and Ilse Steinhardt claimed second in A and first in B and C. Paul Heitzman and Dave Piro placed third.
