Washburn University, Topeka, announced area students who made the spring 2003 dean’s honor roll by earning a 3.4 to 3.99 grade-point average.   • Washburn University, Topeka, announced area students who made the spring 2003 president’s honor roll by earning a 4.0 grade-point average. They were Emilie Frerking, Baldwin; Miki Geary, Donald Gloeckner, Diana Krizman, Kevin Kufahl, Jessica Leffler, Kelley Norman, Leah Rickards, Jill Schepmann, Bethany Schonberg, Matt Skea, Lisa Slavens, Ryan Speers and Jennifer West, Lawrence; Mary Hammel and Amanda Smith, Lecompton; Yuliya Alexeeva, McLouth, and Julie Gibbs, Overbrook.
  • Julia Matthey Ellena, Lawrence, received an associate’s degree May 13 from Dodge City Community College.
  • Joel Beard, Lawrence, was named to the dean’s list for the spring 2003 semester at St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minn., by earning at least a 3.75 grade-point average.
  • Jessica Stein, Eudora, has accepted a $622 teacher education scholarship from Fort Hays State University for 2003-2004. She is the daughter of Tom and Tempest Stein, Eudora.
  • Catherine Kelly, Lawrence, accepted membership in The National Society of Collegiate Scholars and will be honored during a campus ceremony this fall at Washington University, St. Louis. The society recognizes first- and second-year students who excel academically. Kelly also was named to the dean’s list during the spring 2003 semester at Washington University and to the national dean’s list. She is the daughter of Alton and Mary Kelly, Lawrence.
  • Several Lawrence students attended Links to Leadership in June at Fort Hays State University.
