KU to be host to young musicians

Kansas University Department of Music and Dance will be host July 7-25 to the International Institute For Young Musicians.

KU graduate Scott McBride Smith will lead a course of intensive study for young pianists. Smith has selected 40 pianists to participate in the three-week study and performance program.

The artists, ages 13-19, will work with KU faculty and visiting faculty from Julliard, Northwestern and Hong Kong. Their time in the program will include master classes, studio classes, sight-reading and music theory.

Students participating will present two concerts at the Lied Center. The concerts will be 4 p.m. Saturday and 6:30 p.m. July 23. Both concerts are free and will include piano works ranging from Bach to contemporary artists.
