Guenther services

Services for LaVerne H. “Guinea” Guenther, 80, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Burial will be at Memorial Park Entombment Mausoleum.

Mr. Guenther died Wednesday, July 2, 2003, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

He was born Aug. 12, 1922, in Eudora, the son of Harry and Zena (Ziegler) Guenther. He was raised in Eudora and graduated from Eudora High School. He attended Kansas City School of Watch Making.

Mr. Guenther served in the U.S. Navy from June 1944 until March 1946. He owned and operated Guenther’s Jewelry Store for 52 years in downtown Lawrence. He was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church and former member of Elks Lodge of Lawrence.

He married Maxine Daugherty on Dec. 20, 1941, in Arizona. She survives, of the home.

Other survivors include a son, Rex, Lawrence; two sisters, Janice Colman, Eudora, and Doris Touchton, Pittsburg; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A son, Randy, died Aug. 3, 2002.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
