Season-ticket holders sue to hang on to seats

As expected, a Topeka lawyer filed a lawsuit Monday in Douglas County District Court, trying to block efforts to force some Kansas University men’s basketball season-ticket holders to pay $5,000 to keep their seats.

“I’m asking for injunctive relief,” Brock Snyder said. “That means I’m asking for a restraining order so there can be a hearing on this. I’m asking for a judicial review.”

In the lawsuit, Snyder, 67, is representing himself and 81-year-old Frank Godding, Topeka. Both are longtime season-ticket holders.

In early June, the Williams Fund, the fund-raising arm of the KU athletic department, notified Snyder, Godding and 119 other season-ticket holders that their memberships were delinquent and that to keep their seats they would need to contribute $5,000.

Snyder called the arrangement “arbitrary and capricious” and an “unlawful taking of property.” He expects the court to schedule a hearing within 30 days.
