Haskell’s Baker earns NAIA academic honor

Ben Baker has become the first Haskell Indian Nations University male to be named to the NAIA All-American Scholar-Athletes list.

Baker, a 5-foot-10, 215-pound junior linebacker and football team captain from Sapulpa, Okla., owns a 3.67 grade-point average in environmental science.

Detroit Lions add ex-Jayhawk Murphy

Allen Park, Mich. — The Detroit Lions signed linebacker Chaz Murphy, a Kansas University product, and punter Adam Wulfeck on Tuesday, then allocated them to NFL Europe with four other players.

Also sent to NFL Europe were wide receiver Pierre Brown, running back Autry Denson, defensive back James Lewis and linebacker Jody Littleton.

Murphy tried out with the Lions last summer before being waived in August.
