FSHS boys dominate swimming quad

? Free State High won all but three events Wednesday in claiming a boys swimming quadrangular with Lawrence High and Manhattan at Olathe South.

The Firebirds finished with 309 points and were followed by the Indians (293), Falcons (238) and Lions (151).

Free State’s Alex Brunfeldt, Chris Sellon and Anthony Portela led the way with two individual victories apiece.

Brunfeldt won the 200 and 500 freestyle, Sellon won the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke, and Portela won the 50 free and 100 butterfly.

All three swimmers, along with Bret Robinson, also were on the first-place 200-yard freestyle relay team. Brunfeldt and Portela also were on the winning 400 relay team with Chris Wolff and Brian Scars.

LHS divers John Gatti and Nick Leet finished 1-2 in one-meter diving to pace the Lions.

Both Free State and LHS next will compete in the Sunflower League meet Feb. 7-8.
