Somers struts into Walk of Fame

Los Angeles — Suzanne Somers, who played ditsy blond Chrissy Snow on the 1970s sitcom “Three’s Company,” now has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

“And the nuns in Catholic school said I’d never get to heaven,” Somers, above, joked at the ceremony Friday. “This is heaven and I’m just floating in it.”

Somers, 56, also is author of 10 books on weight loss and owns the ThighMaster line of fitness products. She attributed her success to hard work.

“If you believe in yourself, and you focus, and you’re willing to work like a dog, you can make your dreams come true,” she said.

Somers will tour in a one-woman show called “The Blonde in the Thunderbird” beginning in September.

Carter noble with Nobel money

Americus, Ga. — Former President Jimmy Carter will give some of his $1 million Nobel Peace Prize money to an institute his wife founded to help caregivers and their families.

The Carters will announce a “substantial financial gift” Tuesday to the Rosalynn Carter Institute for Human Development, said Wesley Sumner, spokesman for Georgia Southwestern State University, where the institute is located.

The institute, established in 1987, provides some relief for caregivers, who often struggle with physical and emotional stress, isolation, guilt and financial strain as they care for the elderly, children and people with physical and mental disabilities.

The institute also promotes effective caregiving practices and builds public awareness.

Lavigne rules MTV Asia Awards

Singapore — Singer Avril Lavigne won favorite female artist, favorite breakthrough artist and the style award at the second annual MTV Asia Awards.

Linkin Park won the favorite rock act and favorite video awards. The awards were presented Friday night before an audience of 8,000 at Singapore’s Indoor Stadium.

Performers included Lavigne, Missy Elliot, Robbie Williams, the British band Blue and Singapore’s hometown diva, Stefanie Sun.

Nineteen awards were presented to artists and personalities selected by viewers from 10 countries in the region.

Fans help nab bogus promoter

San Diego — Bjork fans gave police a hand in tracking down a man who allegedly cheated them out of a concert by the Icelandic singer.

Alejo Conate was found on the Hawaiian island of Oahu and will be returned to San Diego, authorities said.

Conate is suspected of using bogus e-mails from Bjork to dupe a promoter into booking her at a San Diego nightclub, then selling tickets to the bogus club date. About 400 people bought tickets at $40 apiece.

“People kind of went into an outrage over this,” said Greg Horton, a music shop manager who bought a pair of the tickets.
