6News video: Screen Scene

Three films open in Lawrence today, including “Confessions of a Dangerous Mind,” the competent adaptation of TV producer Chuck Barris’ wildly inventive novel. Barris claims that while creating lowbrow TV hits such as “The Dating Game” and “The Gong Show,” he was working as an assassin for the CIA.

Also opening is the routine horror flick “Darkness Falls,” about a maniacal tooth fairy bent on destroying the lives of frightened townfolk.

In the art house scene comes the excellent “Rabbit-Proof Fence.” This Australian import deals with the Stolen Generation of half-aboriginal children who were forcibly taken from their families and integrated into mainstream society. The atmospheric film follows three girls who escape their captors and attempt a twelve-hundred mile walk back home.

If you’re watching THIS then it’s only a few miles to a theater. So go see some movies. I’m Jon Niccum with Screen Scene.
