Ray joins Cavaliers’ staff

? Former NBA center Clifford Ray was added to Cleveland’s coaching staff on Thursday, reuniting him with new Cavaliers coach Keith Smart.

Ray, who played in the league for 10 years, has previously worked as an assistant with Golden State, Dallas and New Jersey as well in the CBA where he coached with Smart.

Smart was named the Cavs’ interim coach on Monday when the club fired John Lucas. He’s enthused about seeing Ray work with Cleveland’s young team.

“He’s not afraid to speak up to get his point across to people,” Smart said. “I have no problem with him having the loudest voice in the gym. And, he’s got a (championship) ring.”

The 53-year-old Ray has worked as a consultant for forwards and centers across the league. He runs a summer camp for big men in Florida with Robert Parish.

“I’ve worked with everybody in the league,” said Ray. “Chris Webber, you name ’em, I’ve coached ’em.”
