George R. Hildebrand

Memorial services for George R. Hildebrand, 77, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Inurnment will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Leavenworth National Cemetery.

Mr. Hildebrand died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, at Veterans Hospital in Kansas City, Mo.

He was born April 20, 1925, in El Dorado, the son of Bismark and Pearl (Wilson) Hildebrand.

Mr. Hildebrand served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was also a Merchant Marine. He was a self-employed bricklayer and handyman and a member of Eagles, American Legion Dorsey-Liberty Post No. 14 and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He married Marianne Probst on April 20, 1946, in Argonia. They later divorced. She died June 13, 2001.

Survivors include three daughters, Denise Tripp, Laporte, Colo., Cathy Pennel, Rapid City, S.D., and Teresa Norton, Hill City, S.D.; four sons, Richard, Kadoka, S.D., Jerry, Baldwin, Tom, Sturgis, S.D., and Joe, Sacramento, Calif.; a brother, Glenn, Lawrence; a companion, Martha Medsker, Leavenworth; 19 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

An infant daughter died earlier.

The family will receive friends immediately after the service Sunday at the mortuary.

The family suggests memorials to Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 309, sent in care of the mortuary.
