Alexander Alonzo Payne

Graveside services for Alexander Alonzo Payne, 74, Lawrence, will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Oak Hill Cemetery. Military services will be conducted.

Mr. Payne died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

He was born Aug. 27, 1928, in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Jasper A. and Ellen M. (Harris) Payne. He had been a longtime resident of Lawrence and attended Kansas University.

Mr. Payne served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a supervisor at Lawrence Paper Mill for 27 years and then worked for 12 years at Williams Pipeline before he retired.

He married Juanita Clark on July 19, 1974, in Chicago. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include a sister, Anna Hamrick, Dallas, and many nieces and nephews.

The family suggests memorials to LMH oncology department in care of LMH Endowment, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
