Shepherd to do diva duty in ‘Martha Inc.’ TV story

NBC has found someone to play Martha Stewart in its upcoming TV movie about the domestic diva, reports Entertainment Weekly.

Cybill Shepherd will play the beleaguered businesswoman who just wants to focus on her salad in “Martha Inc.: The Story of Martha Stewart.”

Shepherd, a three-time Golden Globe winner for “Moonlighting” and “Cybill,” is coming off her most recent TV gig, as host of the daytime talk show “Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus.” “Martha Inc.” will mostly trace Stewart’s rise to self-made zillionaire, as well as touch on her current travails as she’s being investigated for alleged insider trading. (Stewart has denied any wrongdoing and has yet to be charged with a crime.)

Producer Howard Braunstein, who was behind recent TV biopics of Gilda Radner and Rosa Parks, says Shepherd’s Stewart will resonate with viewers because, “as someone who created a multibillion-dollar business from whole cloth, Martha Stewart embodies the American dream.”

The movie will be based on last year’s book “Martha Inc.: The Incredible Story of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia” by Christopher Byron.
