Gathering to celebrate state’s Cowboy heritage

The Lawrence Cowboy Winter Gathering, a celebration honoring Kansas’ Cowboy culture, will be Friday and Saturday in Lawrence.

The event will feature a trade show, musical performances and other special events. Included in the trade show will be cowboy product vendors, area craftsmen, cowboy poets, storytellers and music. The trade show will be from noon to 9 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Lawrence Holidome, 200 McDonald Drive. Admission is $2 for adults. Children are free.

Sons of the San Joaquin, a western music trio, will perform at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Liberty Hall, 642 Mass.

Artist taxes, accounting topics at Guild meeting

A Kansas City accountant will present “Taxes and Accounting for the Artist” at the monthly meeting of the Lawrence Art Guild.

Ruth Meyers Melching will give the talk during the meeting, which will be 6:30 p.m.-9 p.m. Jan. 20 at the Lawrence Public Library auditorium, 707 Vt.

The meeting is open to the public.

Former Lawrence artist to instruct KCAI classes

A former Lawrence artist will teach off-campus art classes this spring through the Kansas City Art Institute, Kansas City, Mo.

Henri Doner-Hedrick will teach a drawing class at Valley Lane Studio, Lawrence, and a winter landscape painting class at her studio on Lake Dabinawa near McLouth.

Craftswoman to teach Navajo rug weaving

Kansas City, Mo. — A member of the Dine (Navajo) Nation from Lukachukai, Ariz., will give a seminar on traditional Navajo rug weaving from 2:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m. Saturday.

Mary Bedonic will teach participants the Navajo Spiderwoman story, techniques for wool preparation, loom construction, weaving and rug designs and their meanings.

Registration is $5 at the door of the Kansas City North Community Center, 3930 N.E. Antioch, Kansas City, Mo.
