Youth Symphony to begin rehearsals

The Lawrence Youth Symphony will begin its spring rehearsals on Saturday.

Rehearsals will be 8:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. Saturdays at the band room in Free State High School, 4700 Overland Drive.

Orchestra and band students in grades 7-10 are welcome to participate.

Lawrence Civic Choir rehearsals get started

The Lawrence Civic Choir will have its first rehearsal and registration for its spring concert on Monday at First Baptist Church, 1330 Kasold Drive.

Registration will begin at 7 p.m., rehearsal at 7:30 p.m. Regular rehearsals will continue weekly from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Mondays at First Baptist Church. The choir is under the direction of Steve Eubank.

The group’s spring concert is planned for early May and will feature Verdi’s “Stabat Mater” and a premiere of an original piece by Geoff Wilcken, the choir’s accompanist, called “Mass for the Modern Age.”

The 100-voice choir welcomes area singers who love to perform serious, four-part choral music. Formal auditions are not required, but singers should be able to read music and have some choral music experience.

Semester membership fee is $25.
