Donald Metzler, associate dean of the Kansas University School of Engineering, was selected the 1963 Lawrence United Fund president.
Snow and cold suddenly supplanted the 60-degree temperatures of recent days, converting Lawrence into a "far more seasonable community."
From the Lawrence Daily World of Jan. 11, 1903: "The long-haired individual who was saunting along the downtown street this morning with a string tied to his waist was the populist candidate for Congress in the Sixth District four years ago. Fortunately, he lost. ... Glen Chandler was not tried in the probate court for shooting the Gilfillery boy. The officers investigated the case thoroughly and found it purely accidental, and that the Chandler boy was not to blame for the shooting."
