Candidate to replace Findley is new to district

Paul Davis, who has been endorsed by Troy Findley to replace him as state representative for the 46th district, apparently moved to the district only a couple of days ago.

Davis had been living at 1520 Stratford Road, just outside the east-central Lawrence district. He has moved to 1527 Mass., which is inside the district.

Last week, Findley, a Democrat, announced he was leaving his House seat to become legislative liaison for Gov.-elect Kathleen Sebelius. Findley endorsed Davis to replace him.

Davis said he has been residing in the district since Jan. 1.

“I know some people are trying to make an issue of this, but I have lived in the district before and worked there, and I feel very strongly that I know what the people in the district are looking for,” Davis said.

He said he and his wife had been considering moving into the Massachusetts Street house.

“When this opportunity arose, that solidified our decision,” he said.

Findley’s replacement will be elected Saturday at a meeting of the district’s Democratic precinct committee members. The election may be won with a handful of votes because the district has only 16 precinct committee members, according to Marilyn Greathouse, chairwoman of the Douglas County Democratic Party.

Two other possible candidates have emerged: Allen Levine, 36, and Jason Fizell, 26. Levine, a former Lawrence city commissioner, is sales director at Pines International. Fizell, 26, is executive director of the Kaw Valley Heritage Alliance.

Davis is legislative counsel for the Kansas Bar Assn.
