Calvary Temple Assembly of God

The Women of Faith Conference will be April 4-5 in Kansas City, Mo.

Deadline to register for the conference is Feb. 23. The cost is $67.

Participants from Calvary Temple Assembly of God, 606 W. 29th St. Terrace, will car pool to the event.

Christian Outreach Center

Ninth Street Baptist Church’s Christian Outreach Center, 901 Tenn., will be host to a finance seminar from 8 a.m. to noon Jan. 11.

Topics to be covered are: strengthening your church through pastoral support; church finances; knowing your purpose; and understanding and maintaining the church budget.

Guest facilitator will be Valarie K. Brown. Cost to attend the seminar is $20 per person.

First Southern Baptist

The congregation of First Southern Baptist Church, 4300 W. Sixth St., will welcomes its new pastor, the Rev. James R. Bush, on Sunday.

Bush and his wife, Sandy, have three children: James Jr., Langston and Mary-Esther.

The Bush family is moving to Lawrence from Pinckneyville, Ill., where James Bush was pastor of First Baptist Church.

First United Methodist

The music during the 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sunday services at First United Methodist Church, 946 Vt., will be led by John Paul Johnson, the congregation’s new director of music ministries.

Before coming to First Methodist, Johnson was director of music ministries at San Marcos United Methodist Church in San Marcos, Tex.

He is also director of choral activities at Kansas University.

Barb Clinger, director of senior adult ministries, will preach at all three Sunday services. Her sermon title is “Book Your Flight to Egypt.”

Lawrence Aglow

Virginia Burcham, who pastors with her husband, the Rev. Rick Burcham, at Williamstown Assembly of God Church, will be the guest speaker for Lawrence Aglow during its 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. meeting Jan. 11 at Vermont Towers, 1101 Vt.

Virginia Burcham is involved in music ministry, Teen Bible Quiz and Sunday school.

There will be a devotion, a time of praise and worship, fellowship and a time of personal ministry.

Aglow is an international, inter-denominational group of believers in Jesus Christ. The community is welcome to attend.

St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church

To help usher in the new year, the Rev. Darrel Proffitt will deliver his sermon, “A Happy New Year,” at the 7:45 a.m. Sunday service at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, 5700 W. Sixth St.

Proffitt will deliver his sermon, “Authenticity: How to Be Real in a Hollywood World,” at the 9 a.m., 10:45 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Sunday services.

Trinity Episcopal Church

A new adult group has begun Sunday mornings at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1011 Vt., to discuss Bible readings both in an historical context and in relation to their meaning in today’s world.

The group meets at 9:30 a.m. in the Green Conference Room. All are welcome.

Unity Church of Lawrence

Unity Church of Lawrence, 900 Madeline Lane, will have its traditional Burning Bowl service at 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sunday.

An eight-week class on Unity Basics will begin Wednesday.
