Carl Duane ‘Butch’ Porter

Services for Carl Duane “Butch” Porter, 56, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Burial will be in Wellsville Cemetery.

Mr. Porter died Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003, at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka.

He was born Nov. 18, 1946, in Wellsville, the son of Floyd and Naomi (Caruthers) Porter. He lived in Sunflower until he and his family moved in 1958 to Lawrence. He graduated from Lawrence High School in 1964.

Mr. Porter was a supervisor for the Lawrence Journal-World for 38 years. He also owned and operated Old Tymer Clock Service. He was a charter member of YSI Youth Sports and a DCABA coach for many years. He was a member of Mid-America Newspaper Conference and a bowling league.

He married Nancy Lee Dolan on Aug. 28, 1966, in Lawrence. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include two sons, Jerry Wayne and Daniel Duane, both of Lawrence; three brothers, Billy Dean, Robert Eugene and James Edward, all of Lawrence; a sister, Wanda Lou Vickery, Lawrence; and three grandchildren.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home, where family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

The family suggests memorials to American Heart Assn., sent in care of the funeral home.
