Groening

Harvey and VaLera Groening, Lawrence, will celebrate their 50th anniversary with a reception today.

Harvey Groening and VaLera Neufeldt were married Jan. 27, 1953, in Buhler.

Harvey retired from FMC in Lawrence after 35 years. He is an Army veteran and received a degree in chemical engineering from Kansas State University.

VaLera attended Tabor College and is a homemaker. Both are active Christians in the community.

The couple’s children are Gary, Prairie Village; Steven, Eagle, Idaho; Gregory, Arlington, Tex., and Bonnie Erickson, Lenexa. They have eight grandchildren.

The couple request no gifts.

McPherson

Virgil and Sallie McPherson will celebrate their 50th anniversary with a reception from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. today at Grantville United Methodist Church, Grantville.

Virgil McPherson and Sallie Badger were married Jan. 3, 1953, at First Presbyterian Church in Topeka.

They have lived for 40 years near Grantville and own McPherson Wrecking Inc., McPherson Landfill Inc. and McPherson Quarry Inc.

Their children are Matt, Lawrence; Virgil, Mannford, Okla.; Kent, Grantville; Craig, Tecumseh; Scott, Grantville; Marilyn McPherson, Topeka, and Shannon McPherson, Grantville. They have 17 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
