Jon Talcott Strout

? Services for Jon Talcott Strout, 58, Baldwin, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Clearfield United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Clearfield Cemetery.

Mr. Strout died Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003, at Baldwin Care Center.

He was born Jan. 13, 1944, in Detroit, the son of Stanwood Bickford and Dorothy (Schoenherr) Strout. His family later moved to Wichita, where he graduated from Dell Carter High School in 1962 and set a state 100-meter freestyle swim record at Foxnose Country Club.

Mr. Strout served as communications specialist in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1969 at Sandia Military Base in Albuquerque, N.M. He was a carpenter and worked at Payless Cashways in Lawrence before it closed in 2001. He worked for Lawrence Paper Co. at the time of his death.

He supported Vinland Valley 4-H Club in Douglas County and designed and built several Christmas trees for Habitat for Humanity’s fund-raising events. He was a member of Clearfield United Methodist Church.

He married Regina Wells Knight on Oct. 6, 1989, in Wichita. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include a stepdaughter, Kendra Knight of the home; his mother, Eudora; three brothers, Peter, Dallas, and Christopher and William, both of Lawrence.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the church.
