Jayhawks’ Nash might have broken nose

Kansas junior Bryant Nash took a shot to the nose from UNC Asheville’s Oliver Holmes after committing a foul on Holmes with 4:52 left in the Jayhawks’ 102-50 rout of the Bulldogs on Thursday at Allen Fieldhouse.

KU coach Roy Williams said Nash, who left for the locker room after briefly sitting on the bench as trainer Mark Cairns attempted to stop the bleeding, likely has a broken nose.

“They won’t know until the X-ray,” Williams said, “but it doesn’t look good in the locker room.”

Stephen Vinson sat next to Nash in the locker room after KU’s 102-50 victory Thursday night at Allen Fieldhouse.

“He took a good shot. It’s as bad a nose as I’ve seen,” Vinson said.

“He was bleeding all over,” KU’s Nick Collison said. “I came in the locker room. His shorts were all bloody.”

Sophomore Keith Langford broke his nose last Friday, a day before KU’s game against California in Oakland.

“I think it is broken,” Langford said. “I can empathize with Bryant, about what he’s going through now. Hopefully it’s not that bad.”

Langford, by the way, will have his nose set by doctors Tuesday after the Jayhawks return home from their Monday game against Iowa State.

“I’ll have surgery on it and we’ll go from there,” said Langford, who won’t miss any games, but has been fitted for a protective mask and likely will wear it in games the next month.

“I may have to wear it, against my own will,” Langford said, “but whatever it takes, I’ll do it.”
