Donald M. Dicker

Services for Donald M. Dicker, 84, Lawrence, will be at noon Saturday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Dicker died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

He was born March 25, 1918, in Lawrence, the son of Charles and Emma (McCoin) Dicker. He lived all his life in Lawrence and attended Kansas University for two years.

Mr. Dicker served in Gen. George Patton’s Third Army, 95th Division, during World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star. After the war, he worked at A.J. Dicker and Sons Grocery until it closed in 1957. He was a teller at First National Bank from 1957 to 1980 and also worked part time at Ernst & Son Hardware.

He was a member of American Legion Dorsey-Liberty Post No. 14 and Alford-Clarke Post 852 of Veterans of Foreign Wars, both of Lawrence, Moose Club in Topeka, Lawrence Eagles Lodge and North Lawrence Christian Church.

He married Virginia Hornback on June 27, 1946. She died June 7, 1980.

Survivors include two daughters, Carol Greenfield and Maribel Johnson, both of Lawrence; three grandsons; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at the mortuary.

The family suggests memorials to Lawrence Humane Society, sent in care of the mortuary.
