Bunton services

Graveside services for Kathryn J. Bunton, 90, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Ms. Bunton died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002, at Brandon Woods Retirement Community.

She was born Jan. 8, 1912, in Lawrence, the daughter of Hugh and Beulah Alice (Keilman) Bunton. She attended public school in Lawrence and Ottawa, graduating from Liberty Memorial High School in 1931. She attended Kansas University and Lawrence Business College, and she graduated from St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in 1938.

Ms. Bunton was a nurse for a short while at Lawrence Memorial Hospital and Watkins Student Health Center, then did five years of private duty in Fort Worth, Tex. She joined Red Cross Nursing Corps in November 1941 and was inducted into the Army Nurse Corps on Jan. 4, 1942, at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio. She completed her basic training as second lieutenant at Brooke General Hospital in San Antonio on Jan. 29, 1944. She was stationed at William Beaumont General Hospital in El Paso, Tex., for the duration of World War II.

She was a private nurse for Drs. Ray A. and Margaret Clark in 1947. From 1959 until her retirement in 1974, she was a nurse at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

She had been a member of Trinity Lutheran Church since 1969 and was also a member of the American Legion, Douglas Genealogical Society and Bunker Family Association of America.

Survivors include several nieces and cousins.
