Candlin services

Memorial services for Marjorie H. Candlin, 87, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church. Private inurnment will be at a later date.

Mrs. Candlin died Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

She was born Sept. 15, 1915, in Greeley, Colo., the daughter of William and Maude (Fine) Burnett. She attended Colorado Teachers College in Greeley, Colo., and graduated from Kansas University in 1960.

Mrs. Candlin taught elementary school at Riverside School. She retired in 1981. She had formerly taught in Johnson County, Phillipsburg and rural Greeley, Colo.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she was involved in the Fisherman’s Group, Alpha Delta Kappa teacher’s sorority, Chapter FZ of the PEO sisterhood and Douglas County Retired Teachers Assn.

Mrs. Candlin had been a volunteer at Helen Foresman Spencer Museum of Art, delivered for Meals on Wheels, worked with Rotary Foreign Exchange Student Program with her husband and donated a home for Habitat for Humanity.

She married Robert M. Candlin on May 30, 1937, in Greeley, Colo. He survives of the home.

Other survivors include three daughters, Karen Thompson, Kansas City, Mo., Micki Pflieger, Denver, and Berta Woolard, Lawrence; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A son, William King Candlin, died in 1967.

The family suggests memorials to the School of Education at Kansas University or the charity of the donor’s choice, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
