James L. Denton
ATCHISON ? Services for James L. Denton, 71, Atchison, will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, Atchison. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Atchison.
Mr. Denton died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003, at his home.
He was born June 2, 1931, in Denton, the son of Arthur James and Elsie Marie (Melching) Denton. He attended Atchison High School and then became a U.S. Marine, serving in the Korean War.
He was a member of American Legion Post No. 6.
He was a supervisor at Midwest Grain Products, Atchison, where he worked for more than 30 years before retiring in 1993.
He coached Little League, Pony league and Legion baseball teams for many years.
He married Virginia Lillian Bromley on Feb. 2, 1952, in Atchison. She died May 6, 1984.
Survivors include a son, Mark, Atchison; five daughters, Marilyn Johnson, Vallejo, Calif., Sandra Hooper, Atchison, Cynthia Chavez, Lenexa, Cheryl Jackson, Lawrence, and Leslie Ross, Mission; two brothers, Harold, Illinois, and Ronald Underwood, Atchison; two sisters, Shirley Mercer, Dyer, Ind., and Patricia Testerman, Alexandria, Va.; 17 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorials to Atchison Recreation or USD 409 athletics, sent in care of the funeral home, 800 Kansas Ave., Atchison 66002.
