Old home town – 25 and 40 years ago today

IN 1978

A frozen natural gas line between storage fields and McLouth left the nearby Jefferson County community chilled to the bone for some time. The bitter cold snap had caused many such problems. However, McLouth had no major emergencies during the gas foul-up.

IN 1963

The local Woolworth store, in downtown Lawrence, was celebrating a company heritage. In late February of 1879 Frank Winfield Woolworth had opened a five-cent store in Utica, N.Y., and special sales were being featured at the Lawrence store to highlight that beginning.
