She was born in 1919 in Sioux City. She graduated high school in 1937 as class valedictorian.

Mrs. Melland was a homemaker. She was a Humane Society volunteer and member.

She married Clifford Melland in 1942. He died in 1975.

Survivors include a daughter, Janice Melland, Lawrence, Kan.
