KU women clip NU, Washington gets win No. 550

? Kansas University women’s basketball coach Marian Washington earned the 550th victory of her college coaching career with a 62-58 win Wednesday night against Nebraska.

The Jayhawks (10-13 overall, 3-9 Big 12 Conference) led 31-26 at halftime after outshooting the Cornhuskers, 48 percent to 34 percent. Kansas held off Nebraska (8-15, 1-11) in the second half by hitting 68 percent (15 of 22) of its free-throw attempts.

Nebraska was tenacious on the boards, outrebounding Kansas, 41-32, and leading in second-chance points, 14-6, but scored four fewer points in the paint than Kansas. The Jayhawks also had an edge in bench scoring, 14-3.

Blair Waltz led Kansas with 14 points, and Tamara Ransburg had her second straight double-double, scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Erica Hallman and Aquanita Burras scored 12 points each for the Jayhawks, with Burras adding eight rebounds.

Crystal Kemp, who had 26 points and 11 boards in the teams’ first game, scored nine points, had three rebounds and blocked three shots.
