Big 12 Women: Free throws push Buffs past OU
Boulder, Colo. ? Linda Lappe sank four free throws in the final 16 seconds and scored 16 points as Colorado beat Oklahoma, 61-57, Sunday.
Lappe hit 10 of 10 free throws for Colorado (18-4 overall, 8-3 Big 12 Conference). Tera Bjorklund and Veronica Johns-Richardson added 10 points each for the Buffaloes, who beat the Sooners for the first time in six games.
Chelsi Welch led Oklahoma (15-9, 6-5) with 18 points and three three-pointers. It was the Sooners’ first loss to Colorado since Feb. 9, 1998.
Colorado led 33-25 at the break, outscoring Oklahoma 14-6 in the final five minutes. Theresa Schuknecht tied the game at 19, but turned the ball over seven times over the remaining 6:52 of the half.
Early in the third period, the Buffaloes led 44-29 after a three-pointer by Johns-Richardson, but went 1-for-13 during the next 10 minutes and saw CU’s lead slip to 51-48 on three-pointer by Laura Andrews with 3:39 left. Scott had a three-pointer before Lappe took over.
