Flu shots still available

Flu season is under way and approaching its usual end, but it still isn’t too late to get a flu shot, Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department officials say.

The flu season generally runs from November to April. There has been a considerable number of flu-like cases reported in Lawrence in recent weeks, said Barbara Schnitker, director of nurses at the Health Department.

Flu shots are available on a walk-in basis at the Health Department, 200 Maine, Suite B. A shot is $12 but no one is denied service if they are unable to pay. There is no charge for those enrolled in Medicare Part B and who bring their Medicare card with them. Pneumonia shots also are available.
