Big 12 Women: Ohlde, Wildcats survive OSU

? Oklahoma State tried just about every defensive scheme imaginable against Kansas State in the first half.

It worked on everyone but Nicole Ohlde.

Ohlde scored 16 of her 24 points in the first half, and grabbed 12 rebounds as fifth-ranked Kansas State recovered from a poor offensive performance in the opening half Saturday and beat OSU 64-46.

“Ohlde was a huge presence on the inside,” Kansas State forward Kendra Wecker said.

The Wildcats (23-2, 10-1 Big 12 Conference) overcame poor shooting from every other Wildcat in the first half to beat Oklahoma State (5-17, 1-10) for the first time in the last four meetings between the teams. Kansas State last beat the Oklahoma State Feb. 9, 2000.

Wecker finished with 17 points despite shooting 6-of-19. Amy Dutmer had 11 rebounds for the Wildcats. Trisha Skibbe led OSU with 18 points and 12 rebounds and Shelby Hutchens scored 10.

KSU led only 31-30 at halftime, but scored 11 straight to start the second half and Oklahoma State never recovered.

The Wildcats were 5-of-20 from the field with 6:35 left in the first half, but shot 51 percent after that to win their 19th straight at home.

No. 11 Texas 65, ISU 55

Ames, Iowa — Freshman Nina Norman scored a season-high 19 points and Stacy Stephens added 17 points and 13 rebounds as No. 11 Texas won at Iowa State for the first time in four tries.

Tai Dillard scored 16 for the Longhorns (17-5, 10-1 Big 12), who led by six early in the second half, fell behind by six, then ran off 10 straight points to go ahead to stay.

ISU (9-13, 4-7) got 22 points from Lindsey Wilson but managed only one basket — a layup by Wilson — in the final 6:51.

Baylor 86, No. 7 Texas Tech 72, OT

Waco, Texas — Sophia Young scored 26 points and grabbed 17 rebounds as Baylor beat No. 7 Texas Tech in overtime, spoiling Tech coach Marsha Sharp’s bid for her 500th career victory.

Baylor (16-7, 5-6 Big 12) opened the overtime with an 8-0 run and went 7-for-8 from the free throw line in the final 90 seconds. Steffanie Blackmon had 20 points and 10 rebounds for Baylor.

Tech (20-3, 9-2) forced the overtime when Jia Perkins hit two free throws with 2 seconds left in regulation.

Texas A&M 69, Nebraska 54

College Station, Texas — Melissa Picone and Lynn Classen each scored 12 points to lead Texas A&M.

Toccara Williams scored 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, and Rhianna Reed added 10 points for the Aggies (10-12, 3-8 Big 12).

Nebraska (8-14, 1-10), which held a 34-29 halftime lead, was led by Alexa Johnson with 17 points. Margaret Richards had 10.

Texas A&M outscored the Cornhuskers 40-20 in the second half, shooting better than 58 percent from the field.
