Tigers to tackle Knight, Tech

? It doesn’t get any easier for No. 21 Missouri, going from 12th-ranked Kansas University to Bobby Knight.

Six days after losing by six points on the road to the rival Jayhawks, the Tigers put their unbeaten home record on the line today against Knight’s Texas Tech squad. This one comes one game after Knight earned career victory No. 800.

Missouri (13-5 overall, 4-3 Big 12 Conference) is 10-0 in the Hearnes Center, including three Big 12 victories. The Tigers have a chance to make a move in the conference in coming days, with three of their next four games at home against schools with a combined 12-24 league record.

Missouri also gets 6-foot-10 reserve Jeffrey Ferguson — the Tigers’ tallest player — back from a two-game disciplinary suspension. The Tigers have been short-handed, making do with just eight scholarship players during Ferguson’s absence.

Knight, 62, became the fourth coach to reach 800 in Wednesday’s 75-49 rout of Nebraska, joining Dean Smith (879), Adolph Rupp (876) and Jim Phelan (824).

Texas Tech (13-5, 3-4) won the last meeting with Missouri — 91-68 in Lubbock, Texas, on Feb. 20, 2002 — and Knight has a career record of 2-1 against Missouri. But Missouri coach Quin Snyder is 3-1 against the Red Raiders.

Texas Tech has won two of the past three overall behind the 1-2 punch of Andre Emmett, averaging 21 points and six rebounds, and Kasib Powell, averaging 16 points and 5.5 rebounds.
