Spring scents can be sampled soon

? Slowly but surely the days are getting a little bit longer, and we can almost see the first signs of spring — and thanks to some new fragrances we can already smell it.

Take Escada’s Ibiza Hippie with its blend of flowers and fruits, such as the litchi, blackberry and pear that form the top note, and the cranberries, water hyacinth and blue freesia that is the heart of fragrance.

Blond sandalwood, amber and passion flower are combined with a mix of musks to create Ibiza Hippie’s base. The whole scent is supposed to remind up of the bohemian paradise of the Spanish island.

Other new fragrances on counter now and into March:

l Alexander McQueen’s Kingdom is the first perfume from the designer known for romantic and sexy clothes. The scent is composed around the essence of sandalwood with a hint of ginger, with top notes of Calabrian bergamot, Sicilian mandarin and Tunisian neroli. The heart gives off an aura of cumin, rose and Indian jasmine, while the base notes are a blend of Bourbon vanilla and Indonesian myrrh.

l Kors Michael Kors uses cognac with Sicilian bergamot and clementine as the top notes for its “sultry and playful” scent. The middle notes are red berries, port wine and crimson rose petals blended with ylang ylang and jasmine, and hints of sweet William carnations and pink freesia. Light woods, red incense, white amber and patchouli form the base of the fragrance.

l Makeup artist Paula Dorf launches her Zita fragrance, a floral scent inspired by Dorf’s memories of freshly cut grass. The dominant element is tea rose complemented by peach and pink peony, and creamy sandalwood and musk.

l Wild Fig & Cassis by Jo Malone mixes the smells of figs with grass, cassis and cherry. The heart is a rich floral, with hyacinth and jasmine, and rounded out by cedarwood, amber and musk.

l Mat;le vert is the next generation of fragrance from avant-garde fashion force Masaki Matsushima. Mat;le vert aims to blend ancestral traditions and modern trends in Japanese culture with top notes of juniper berry, green lemon, bamboo sap, parsley, tea leaves and kiwi, a heart of watermelon, cucumber and lotus flower, and a dry down of crystal musk and reed wood.

l A new fragrance, Des Lys, honors Dutch perfumer Annick Goutal. The single-flower scent of lilies was created with input from Goutal’s daughter Camille.

l Gap’s Truly Devoted gets its springlike scent from the red tulip essence in the top note, which is combined with mandarin. The base is lily and musk.

l Care Bears Fragrance Feelings, developed with retailer Hot Topic, are for the very youngest wearers of perfume who want to get all dolled up just like their mothers. Funshine Bear has a citrus smell and Cheer Bear is a floral, while Grumpy Bear wears a vanilla-pear scent.
