Fightin’ Indian women fall short against Peru State
Falls City, Neb. ? A valiant effort by the Haskell Indian Nations University women’s basketball team fell short Saturday in a 60-55 loss to Peru State.
Melissa Mossett scored 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Fightin’ Indians, who trailed by just three at halftime and held Peru State to just 34 percent from the field for the game.
Melissa Catron added 13 points and seven rebounds, and Kateri Schaaf had 12 points for the Indians, who dropped to 6-15 overall and 2-7 in the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Brooke Placke had 14 points, and Brenda Sindelar added 12 points and 14 rebounds for Peru State (7-18, 4-6 MCAC).
Ottawa men 71, Tabor 69
Ottawa — Tony Porter scored 23 points and P.J. Siggal added 20, leading the Ottawa University men’s basketball team to a victory Saturday against Tabor.
Porter also had 17 rebounds for the Braves, who trailed 37-30 at halftime, but rallied late to edge the Blue Jays. Michal Ratzlaff had 20 points to lead Tabor.
Tabor women 56, Ottawa 36
Ottawa — Amber Lannan had 13 points but was the only Brave in double figures.
Ottawa shot a dismal 21 percent from field-goal range for the game.
