Classes will teach radio operation skills

The Douglas County Amateur Radio Club will offer a class to help people obtain their first radio licenses. The class will start at 6:30 p.m. Mondays, beginning Feb. 17, in meeting room D at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. There will be 10 sessions with the last class devoted to taking the official FCC license exam.

The course costs $10 plus the cost of the textbook, “Now You’re Talking,” which can be bought at Associated Radio in Kansas City or by calling (800) 326-3942. The club also can help to acquire books. Contact Bob Drake at 842-5961 or rdrake@ku.edu.

New Web site answers Kansans’ questions

A new Web site operated by a consortium of Kansas libraries allows users to ask questions of reference librarians on a live chat.

The Lawrence Public Library, along with 20 other Kansas libraries, is participating in the KANAnswer project in which the librarians either will answer questions live or refer users to resources.

There is no charge to use the service, which operates from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

To access the service, go to www.lawrencepubliclibrary.org and click as directed, or visit www.KANAnswer.org.
