Old home town – 25 and 100 years ago today

IN 1978 – The Douglas County Environmental Improvement Council was proposing a $2 million drainage plan for the Lawrence area. Officials hoped it would tie in with programs involving the establishment of Clinton Lake.

IN 1903 – From the Lawrence Daily World of Feb. 4, 1903: “Kappa Sigma, the fraternity which recently granted a chapter to the ‘Ten O’clockers,’ a local club at Baker University, installed its new chapter last night in Baldwin. The men who initiated the new chapter were from Fayetteville, Ark., the chapter at the university in Arkansas being the nearest one from Baldwin. Kappa Sigma is a southern fraternity, founded in 1867, and ranks very high among national fraternities.”
