Essay contest open to high school students

Kansas high school students could win up to $200 from the Native Sons and Daughters of Kansas in the “Kansas! Say it Above a Whisper” essay contest.

Essays are expected to show pride in the state. Past entries have included topics such as strong-hearted Kansans, wheat fields and natural beauty.

Essays are limited to 250 words, about one double-spaced page. Entries must be postmarked by Jan. 6. Members of the Kansas Press Women will judge essays on originality, creativity and sincerity.

The winner will be announced and recognized at the annual Native Sons and Daughters of Kansas banquet Jan. 30 at Maner Conference Center in the Kansas Expocentre in Topeka.
