Chadwick A-A Again: Williams College junior Joyia Chadwick, a Free State High product, has been named an NAIA Division Three volleyball All-American for the second year in a row. Chadwick, a third-team selection last year, earned second-team honors this season. Chadwick also earned Academic All-NESCAC honors this fall.

  • Schmidt, Brunfeldt Shine: Alex Brunfeldt and Tyler Schmidt of the Lawrence Aquahawks each collected a pair of gold medals at a meet in Roeland Park. The Aquahawks’ Jill Courtney earned three silver medals. Teammates Eva Hernandez and Anthony Portela garnered two silvers apiece. Other second places were recorded by Chelsea Dirks-Ham, Caitlin Gallagher and Schmidt. Ashley Robinson had two third-place finishes. Other bronze medals went to Sierra Slavin, Rebecca Glass, Brunfeldt, Dirks-Ham and Portela.
  • LGA Standout: Darian Gonzalez of Lawrence Gymnastics Academy won the vault and floor exercise at a meet Saturday in Overland Park. Gonzalez also was third on the beam and the bars and finished second in the all-around in her Level 6 age group. Other LGA competitors were Ellen Hernly, Rachel Rasmussen, Mariah Anstaett, Abbey Bays, Miako Kitaoka and Rosie Schaumburg. LGA’s Kelcy Bowers, Rachael Schaffer, Lexi Gonzales and Dianna Torgerson participated in a Level 7 meet in Jenks, Okla.

  • KU Baseball Camps: Openings remain for two Kansas University baseball camps — a hitting session Dec. 22-23 and a skills camp Dec. 27-29. Youths ages 7 to 18 are eligible. For information, call 864-7907.

  • Whittaker Honored: Jim Whittaker of Lawrence has earned the Trailblazer Award presented by the Kansas Cycling Assn. Whittaker promoted 21 days of racing in Kansas and coordinated awards of nearly $30,000 in cash prizes and merchandise during the season.

  • Andregg Takes Three: Zach Andregg of the Lawrence Aquahawks won three gold medals at last weekend’s Missouri Valley Level II swim championships at LIAC. Other Aquahawks’ gold medalists were Pauline Seifert, Elle Weber, Julian McCafferty, Ethan Fisher and Ben Sloan. Tony Libeer and Nathaniel Rommel earned two silver medals each. Other seconds went to Alex Boyer, Faith Kempf, Fisher and Andregg. Kempf had four thirds and Weber two. Other bronzes went to Amber Hicks, Bailey Carlson, McCafferty and Sloan.

  • Erb Honored: Lawrence’s Brian Erb, a senior football player at Middlebury College, has been named to the New England Small College Athletic Conference fall all-academic team. Erb was one of only 10 honorees. All compiled a grade-point average of at least 3.35.

  • Cycling Champs: Lawrence’s Eric Struckhoff and Jessica Drees won individual titles in Saturday’s Kansas Cyclocross championships in Kansas City, Kan. Cyclocross combines the bikes of road racing, the knobby tires of off-road racing and the obstacles and hurdles of steeplechase.

  • Force Girls Champions: Kaw Valley Force U-15 girls won the fall Heartland Soccer League championship. Team members are Lucca Wang, Daphny Tatsitoulis, Abby Vestal, Amanda Vervynck, Megan Hrenchir, Melissa Hurst, Maya Weil, Bry Aiken, Elia Brown-Davis, Clair Robinson, Elizabeth Johnson, Erica Hirl, Jen Busby, Jenny Brooks and Ruby Foster. Coaches are John Williams and Megan LaBonte.
