K-State survives WSU

? On a night when the Kansas State offense struggled against a zone defense, Jeremiah Massey found a way to break through.

Massey, a 6-foot-8 junior forward, scored 23 points and 11 rebounds, leading KSU past Wichita State, 54-50, Wednesday night. It was the second straight double-double for Massey, who had 23 points and 12 rebounds in an 87-82 triple-overtime loss Saturday to Oregon State.

“We had Jeremiah Massey and some timely shots,” KSU coach Jim Wooldridge said. “That was basically our offense. He was the difference maker. He’s played very well in the last two games.”

The Wildcats (5-1) held on late to win their second straight over the in-state rival Shockers.

Down 53-50 in the final minute, the Shockers (5-2) missed four potentially game-tying three-pointers. Tim Ellis’ free throw with 2.8 seconds left sealed the win for the Wildcats.

“We wanted to beat them better than we did, but we couldn’t get it done,” Massey said. “They talked a lot. Before the game, during the game and even when it was over. I fed off that.”

Jarrett Hart and Ellis each scored eight points for Kansas State. Randy Burns led the Shockers with 12.

Texas Tech 67, TCU 60

Lubbock, Texas — Andre Emmett scored 27 points as Texas Tech held off a late-game charge to beat TCU.
