Even the grinches of Lawrence stand to have their hearts warmed this holiday season by the old-fashioned Christmas spirit and traditional carols of Home Harmonies.

Home Harmonies is a volunteer Christmas caroling group that benefits Habitat for Humanity, the organization that helps build housing for low-income families.

“I love it,” said Debbie McCarthy, administrator of Home Harmonies. “I love to sing and I love what we’re all about, and it’s just great to see the people light up when we sing.”

The volunteers carol from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday afternoon through Christmas on Massachusetts Street. Home Harmonies also sings at private Christmas parties for a set fee.

“Singing on Mass. Street when it’s cold outside; that’s dedication to Habitat for Humanity,” said Linda Klinker, Habitat program director.

This is the group’s 11th year of bringing holiday cheer to downtown Lawrence.

“I do want to support things that support Habitat, and I also really like to sing,” said Ken Ratzlaff, Habitat liaison and Home Harmonies volunteer. “It’s fun, too, around Christmas time,”

Last year the group raised close to $2,000 for Habitat during the holiday season.

“We really appreciate it that they go out and do this every year on their own,” Klinker said.
