Forrest ‘Hugh’ Thurber Sr.

? Services for Forrest “Hugh” Thurber Sr., 86, Topeka, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Northland Christian Church in Topeka. Burial will be in Rochester Cemetery.

Mr. Thurber died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2003, at Midland Hospice House in Topeka.

He was born Jan. 24, 1917, in Richland, the son of George W. and Carrie Belle (York) Thurber.

Mr. Thurber was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran and served in Asia during World War II. He was president and founder of Super Oil Co., later called Performance Tire and Wheel. He also owned the Turquoise Shop, Anchor Marine, Anchor Gold and was co-owner of Topeka Pump Co. He was a member of Northland Christian Church, North Topeka Kiwanis Club and Topeka Oilman’s Club.

He married Helen Maxine Coffman on Nov. 13, 1938, in Olathe. She survives, of Topeka.

Other survivors include a son, Forrest H. Jr., Topeka; a daughter, Janice Maxine Morin, Topeka; four grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the service hour Tuesday at the church.
